Crown d+b were invited to deliver this project having just completed refurbishment of another building in London for this client.
The building has a rich heritage originally serving as one of six City of London Police stations during the Victorian era (Cloak Lane), which was closed in the 1960’s and repurposed as an office building. Crown d+b offered a scheme which reflected this and gave a nod to the building’s past including specially curated display items for the new reception area including a genuine city of London police truncheon and helmet from the force in that era, now proudly displayed for all to see.

The works comprised the CAT A+ design and build of the recently vacated Second floor East and West wings ready to occupy and the refurbishment of all common parts on all floors including lifts, lobbies, WC’s and core stairwell. Crown d+b were then further engaged to deliver a complete renewal of the air conditioning and ventilation systems and the reconfiguration of the roof level plant room and the condenser farm serving all floors and update the hot water systems serving the building, to go fossil fuel free. This was a very complex operation requiring careful consideration, planning, communication and execution of the works in a multi tenanted and occupied building, to minimise disruption to tenants and maximise efficiencies for the client. In such an old building working on the M&E, Crown d+b identified Asbestos present and skilfully dealt with the safe removal via our licensed specialist, without delaying the program.
The new manned reception area was designed to elevate a previous scheme which was unremarkable. The new scheme has been carefully put together by Crown d+b in close collaboration with our clients’ retained letting agents (Kauffmans) who market the building, to enhance visitors, occupiers and potential occupiers experience and extends through to the common parts accessing the tenant floors. The end result is a bright and airy, welcoming and very attractive space, reflecting the aspirational nature of having this building as a business address for your company.
Crown d+b also looked after exterior works to refresh the limestone facade and entrance including refurbishing the London style railings and again with a nod to the heritage, we included police station style lanterns on the portico. With the replacement of the AC systems, this building is prime lettable space in central London. Our client is delighted with the end product, which we delivered on time and on budget.
